Athletic trainer – the valuable specialists in the background

Do you want to make your team fitter, improve the physical condition of your players and minimize the risk of injury? Then the CAS Athletic Trainer in Soccer is the right course for you.

The demands on athletic trainers in soccer have increased considerably in recent years. The systematic improvement of conditional skills in competition, the increasing individualization of training measures and injury-preventive training options are increasingly expanding the range of tasks in this specialist area.

For example, athletics coaches need to optimize their players’ football-specific endurance performance based on sound basic endurance, take into account the various aspects of speed in the training process and improve maximum strength levels in order to subsequently develop speed performance.

In addition, topics such as functional training, core strengthening, mobility, leg axis stabilization, coordination training and position-specific athletic measures are part of the versatile and demanding range of tasks.

TOP LECTURERS FROM ATHLETIC TRAINING

“The position of athletic trainer is one of the most important positions in a professional soccer club. Athletics, fitness, conditioning and, above all, the aspect of speed have certainly undergone another significant upgrade in recent years. They are of central importance in all games of the professional leagues – especially for the development of top teams and top players. Therefore, the development of these topics is of course an essential point for a successful soccer team. On the other hand, it is also enormously important in terms of prevention, performance diagnostics and load management. All of this is part of the athletic trainer’s area of responsibility. Therefore, it is a mandatory requirement to have highly competent and up-to-date trained staff in your coaching staff in professional soccer, in the performance-oriented area and in youth performance soccer. If you want to keep up to date and educate yourself, you will get comprehensive and sound input from real experts at the IFI.”

“The profession of athletic trainer has become an absolutely trendy profession and is now enormously demanding and diverse. On the one hand, you have to cover many training areas on the pitch, master training control and data analysis with different technological tools, and likewise think in a networked way and adapt athletic training to the game system and the principles of the coach and the club. All of these areas are learned in practice and theory in the Certificate of Athletic Trainer in Soccer. I’m looking forward to being a part of it again!”

YOUR ADVANTAGES: YOU OPTIMIZE YOUR PERFORMANCE KNOW-HOW

Especially in amateur and youth soccer, there is still enormous potential in the area of athletics when it comes to optimizing the performance of individual players, but also of the entire team.

Often, clubs and associations lack top athletic trainers with the necessary expertise to develop and set up an ideally coordinated athletic program in line with the competition calendar.

In particular, the different working methods and procedures presented there offered me the opportunity to take away numerous useful tips and ideas for my own work and to refine my previous way of working. The extensive range of literature and media on the learning platform offers the opportunity to deal with individual topics in great depth and to acquire basic theoretical knowledge. All in all, this training is a great basis for working on athletics, whether as an athletics coach or head coach.”

“After reflecting on what helps me as a coach to become even better, I came up with the topic of athletic training in football. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all lecturers, experts and the program director for the knowledge imparted.

CAS SIMPLY EXPLAINED

Extra-occupational training and further education courses that can be completed with a Certificate of Advanced Studies – CAS for short – offer the opportunity to deal with a topic academically and acquire a qualification below an academic degree (e.g. Bachelor). CASs are also assessed according to credit points under the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Accordingly, these credit points are also recognized throughout Europe. CASs can be upgraded to a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) or other academic degree programs by attending further CASs and writing an academic thesis.

ACTIVITY AS AN ATHLETIC TRAINER IN SOCCER

With regard to competitive sports, it is clear that athletics is an interplay of complex movement skills and the demands in soccer are constantly increasing due to the ongoing professionalization.

Today’s soccer players must be able to combine skills such as agility, speed, stability, strength, endurance and coordination without neglecting the focus on their own ball and game technique. Training these skills is the main task of athletic trainers in soccer.

To do this, they need specific sport motor knowledge and skills in order to teach and instruct appropriate exercises. Athletic trainers set up systematic, position-specific and individual training plans to improve each individual player as well as the team as a whole.

The goal is long-term performance development, performance optimization and performance maintenance. Age and performance level determine the training program. The close exchange with the coaching team and the coordination of team and individual training depending on the competition calendar are therefore fundamental prerequisites for the daily work.
